I think you could argue that avatars, particularly in highly developed online communities, can temporarily supplant the “self” or identity of millions of individual internet users in a similar fashion. I would not be surprised to learn that a few may struggle over which “reality” is real. As an immersive experience, the internet can fool the mind as easily as a mirror.

And I’m constantly drawn to a dilemma: if the content of education is immaterial, then it can’t be measured, if it can’t be measured, what do we receive grades for? in 99% of cases – simply for reproducing general truths a teacher proclaimed (it’s always good if the things he proclaims are truthful)
